The digital transformation of modern societies is amongst the biggest challenges of the 21st century. Digitalization can enable people to participate in the benefits of globalization, but it can also lead to new forms of exclusion and social fragmentation. Research in this area identifies the causes and consequences of digital divides across countries, but also within societies. Research  findings are of high relevance for labor market, education, and innovation policies.
