Chancellor Angela Merkel to hold keynote at Global Solutions Summit 2019

It is here that German Chancellor Dr. Angela Merkel will speak to some 1,200 participants with her keynote. “Merkel’s participation testifies to the German government’s ongoing commitment to multilateralism. We can only rise to the great challenges of our time through international cooperation and the collaboration of all relevant social groups,” Dennis J. Snower, President of the Global Solutions Initiative, said.

Additional speakers include high-ranking representatives from G20 governments and German government representatives: The Federal Minister of Foreign Affairs, Heiko Maas, the Federal Minister of Economics and Energy, Peter Altmaier, Federal Minister of Justice and Consumer Protection, Katarina Barley, and the Federal Minister for Labor, Hubertus Heil.

Moreover, Naoyuki Yoshino, Chair of T20 Japan 2019 and Dean of the Asian Development Bank Institute, Pascal Lamy, former Director-General of the World Trade Organization, and Gunter Pauli, Founder and Director of Zero Emissions Research and Initiatives and author of “The Blue Economy,” will also be in attendance.

Scheduled in the months leading up to Japan's G20 presidency, the Global Solutions Summit provides momentum and policy recommendations on wide-ranging G20 issues, including sustainable development, infrastructure finance, trade, climate change, social cohesion, the future of politics, cooperation with African nations, aging populations and much more. Emphasis is also on strengthening the recoupling of social and economic processes, to bring about a paradigm shift that ensures a sustainable and socially-balanced world.

About the Global Solutions Summit

The Global Solutions Summit is held annually by the Global Solutions Initiative, a global think tank network which contributes to greater continuity and impact within G20 policy arenas, by bringing together G20 leaders and leading scientists to find solutions to the world’s great challenges. The Global Solutions Initiative is chaired by Professor Dennis J. Snower, President of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. The Institute is Research Coordinator for the Global Solutions Summit.
