Global Solutions Initiative for Advising G20 Launched

During a summit of G20 think tanks (T20) in Berlin, the CGP met to agree the founding of the "Global Solutions Initiative" (GSI). The secretariat of the initiative will be located at Berlin’s Hertie School of Governance to ensure proximity to political decision-makers. The initiative will bring together academic advice for the G20, consolidate it, and disseminate it to the Council’s many experts.

"With the GSI, we are creating a new structure to enable more academic expertise to flow into and support the G20 process. We are very pleased that this important decision has been taken during the German G20 presidency. As our partner, the Hertie School will enhance the GSI intellectually and—by hosting the center of the worldwide activities here in Berlin—organisationally," said Dennis J. Snower, President of the Kiel Institute. As co-chair of the Think 20 process, Snower is coordinating the academic support of the G20 through think tanks during this year's German presidency. He initiated the founding of the CGP, and of the Global Solutions Initiative that builds upon it.

Helmut K. Anheier, President of the Hertie School of Governance, said: "Working together with the Kiel Institute, Brookings, the OECD, and other world-leading research institutes in the G20 process is an important step for our university. As an important platform that will contribute to the exchange of academia, business, politics and civil society at the G20 level, the GSI exactly reflects the kind of application-oriented research and the very international approach of Hertie School."
