Spain and Catalonia – Separatism is Harming Economically (original publication German only)
The authors explain that the conflict over the independence of Catalonia threatens to impair the recovery of the Spanish economy. They show that Catalonia’s export-intensive, highly industrialized economy benefits from the close business ties with other Spanish regions and from the unrestricted access to the EU Internal Market. They conclude that in case of a unilateral independence these ties would be at stake at the expense of all parties involved.
