Authors

Publication Date

Tourism is of greater economic importance for Schleswig-Holstein than in many other German states. Therefore, the state was particularly affected by lockdowns, travel restrictions and infection control requirements during the pandemic years, which brought tourism operations to a standstill or at least severely limited them. The author analyzes the development of the tourism business in the Corona years and draws a comparison between the pre- and post-Corona periods. In doing so, the tourism development in Schleswig-Holstein is classified in a comparison of the federal states and a Corona balance is drawn for the Schleswig-Holstein travel areas and accommodation businesses. Within the framework of a concentration analysis, the development of seasonality in the state and its travel areas during the Corona period is examined. It is discussed how the conditions for a qualitative growth of tourism in Schleswig-Holstein developed during the Corona years.
