Award Ceremony for the 2015 Global Economy Prize: Media Invitation

The Laureates are:

  • Mikhail Gorbachev, former leader of the Soviet Union, Nobel Peace Prize laureate,
  •  Jeffrey Immelt, CEO of General Electric, and economic adviser to U.S. President Barack Obama,
  •  Kristine and Douglas Tompkins, entrepreneurs in the textile industry (The North Face, Esprit, Patagonia), who have also founded several private national parks in Patagonia, and
  •  Sir Christopher A. Pissarides, Cypriot-British professor of economics at the London School of Economics, and Professor of European Studies at the University of Cyprus; Nobel Prize laureate in economics.

The Global Economy Prize is an initiative of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. This prize is awarded in close cooperation with the City of Kiel and the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Commerce. It is meant to honor those who have worked for a more cosmopolitan, more market-oriented, and more caring society. More information can be found here.

Organizational Matters:

Mikhail Gorbachev will not attend the award ceremony in person. For more information, please see our media information from June 2, 2015.

Please use the attached accreditation form to register before June 17. Please remember to register all other members of your team. Please send the completed form either by email to ifw-medien@ifw-kiel.de, or by facsimile to +49 (0)431/8814-500. The annual press pass issued by the Press and Information Office of the German Federal Government is not valid for the award ceremony.

Please be aware that for security reasons, your technical equipment will be inspected. Therefore we would like to ask you to arrive early. For this reason, the entrance on the Waisenhofstraße will be opened at 8.30 a.m.

Before the event officially begins, there will be an opportunity to take a group photograph of the laureates.
