Against the backdrop of the Russian annexation of the Crimea European and American political decision-makers are considering restrictions to trade relations with Russia. It is asked to which extent the German economy would suffer from restrictions in German-Russian trade relations. These concerns are dealt with in Kiel Policy Brief by the Kiel researchers Klaus Schrader und Claus-Friedrich Laaser. Their result is that German exporters would suffer from sanctions against Russia, but they would be able to compensate possible losses. Instead, interruptions of Russian gas deliveries would be a more severe problem.
