Prof. Rainer Thiele is director of the “Kiel Institute Africa Initiative” and an adjunct professor at Kiel University. He earned both his master’s degree and his doctorate in Economics from Kiel University. His current research focus is on African economic development - for instance the impact of large-scale land acquisitions in Sub-Saharan Africa on rural communities - and on the allocation and effectiveness of foreign aid. He has published his research results in internationally recognized peer-reviewed journals, such as the Economic Journal and the Journal of Development Economics.
