Stefan Kooths leads Friedrich August von Hayek Society

Since 2014, Kooths is Head of Forecasting at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. In 2013 he has been appointed Professor of Economics at the University of Applied Sciences Europe in Berlin. Kooths succeeds Prof. em. Dr. Wolf Schäfer (Helmut Schmidt University, Hamburg) as Chairman of the Hayek Society. He is also a member of the board of trustees of the Prometheus Institute in Berlin and associated to the Mises Institute in Auburn/Alabama.

When Kooths took office, he stressed that under his leadership the Hayek-Gesellschaft would adhere to its strictly non-partisan course of Ordnungspolitik. In Hayek's tradition, Kooths does not place social-philosophical controversies in the categories of "right" and "left", but along the border between individual freedom on the one hand and constructivist collectivism on the other. He sees one focus of his work in the promotion of young talent. In addition, he wants to strengthen the visibility of the Hayek Society and "fly the flag for the power of liberal ideas".
