Sebastian Horn joined the Kiel Institute for the World Economy in the winter semester of 2024, where he will establish the new research group “The International Financial System.” At the same time, he assumed a professorship in “International Finance” in the Department of Economics at the Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Sciences at the University of Hamburg.
His research focuses international finance, in particular on sovereign debt and financial crises.
Horn studied economics and international relations at the University of St. Gallen and the University of Cambridge. He earned his Ph.D. in Economics from Ludwig Maximilian University of Munich in 2020 and was a research fellow at the Kiel Institute during that period. More recently, he served as an economist at the World Bank in Washington, D.C.
