Multinational firms and global supply chains are central to the ongoing transformation of globalization. In a context of rising geopolitical tensions, protectionism, and strategic decoupling, understanding their evolving role is crucial. To explore these developments, the Kiel Institute is organizing a workshop in Berlin on May 15, bringing together leading international scholars to present recent advances in research on multinational enterprises and global trade.
The workshop will feature a keynote by Isabela Manelici (LSE) on The Gains from Foreign Multinationals in an Economy with Distortions.
The following papers will be presented :
- Trade Within Multinational Boundaries by Paola Conconi (University of Oxford)
- Shocked by COVID: Exporting Along Global Value Chains by Holger Breinlich (University of Surrey)
- Justice for Sale: Explaining the Rise in Investor-State Dispute Settlement by Emily Blanchard (Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth)
- Market Concentration and the Welfare Gains from Trade by Alejandro Graziano (University of Nottingham)
- Multinational Production, Trade, and Carbon Emissions by Joschka Wanner (University of Würzburg & Kiel Institute)
