Supply chains in the post-Corona era (in German)

The COVID-19 pandemic has shown the world how vulnerable international supply chains can be in
the face of global shocks. This has triggered a political discussion regarding a possible shift of supply
chains back to Germany and Europe. The aim is to reduce dependence on foreign suppliers and make
the German economy more resilient to crises. In order to objectify this debate, this brief report
examines how dependent the mechanical engineering industry in particular is on foreign suppliers and
to what extent a relocation of value chains could impact welfare in Germany and the world.
