IfW Joins Advisory Group to German Government

The Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) has been re-appointed to the group of economic advisors to the German government. It joins four other economic institutes as a member of the Joint Economic Forecast Project Team, which is responsible for the spring and fall forecasts, and has been appointed for a period of four years.

This decision was announced today by the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy. “We are delighted that the federal government has accepted our bid,” said Kiel Institute President Prof. Dennis J. Snower. “This vindicates our decision to maintain the high quality of our forecasting work during our three-year hiatus.”

This sentiment was echoed by Prof. Stefan Kooths, Head of the Forecasting Center at the Kiel Institute: “Our appointment to the Joint Economic Forecast Project Team is a very gratifying acknowledgement of the work of the Kiel Institute’s economic research team. I’m certain that it was to our advantage that, in addition to our extensive forecasting activity, we regularly address current economic policy issues in the course of our numerous consulting projects for national and international institutions. Together with my team, I look forward to this renewed opportunity to contribute our qualified theoretical groundwork and institutional expertise to the preparation of future forecasts.”

The Joint Economic Forecast Project Team in the next years consists of five economic research institutes or consortia. The Kiel The Kiel Institute has been appointed for a period of four years.
