(...) US President Donald Trump and the German Chancellor Angela Merkel have held their first face-to-face meeting. They emerged stating their commitment to defence spending and emphasising the need for fair, free trade deals. Meanwhile, US Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin has been meeting global finance counterparts from the G20 group in Baden Baden, Germany, to calm fears of a global trade war. Dennis Snower is an American economist and president of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy in Germany.
