Innovation and Growth in Emerging Economies

Emerging economies and China, in particular, are playing an increasingly important role in global innovation, as they move from imitating technology to producing genuine innovation. Research in this area investigates patterns of innovation and growth in emerging economies, the consequences of global knowledge sourcing for emerging economies and the driving forces behind knowledge flows from industrialized countries to emerging economies. The current focus is on the Chinese economy, investigating the development of China’s indigenous innovation capabilities for its transition towards an innovation-led growth model. Putting  research on innovation in China into a wider perspective, we will address the question what other emerging and developing economies can learn from the Chinese experience, and what China’s rise to a major player in the field of international innovation implies for European and German innovation and industrial polices.
