EES Conference

Wages in a Time of Adjustment and Restructuring 2011

13 - 14 Dec 2011

The conference "Wages in a time of adjustment and restructuring", held on December 13-14, 2011, was organized in coordination with the European Central Bank (ECB), one of the EES network members, and the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), one of the leading research centers in the world. It is commendable that the ECB not only hosted the conference but also co-sponsored it by covering part of the overall expenses of the conference (including travel and accommodation for participants). The conference was organized in order to discuss key labor market issues that have arisen after the recent financial crisis. In particular, conference participants discussed a variety of issues related to (i) the structure of wages, in particular differentials across countries, regions, sectors, skill, gender and age and the impact of recent economic shocks on such differentials, (ii) the role of emerging competition and industrial restructuring, unit labour costs and competitiveness and (iii) Institutions and wage formation mechanisms and their role in facilitating macroeconomic adjustment.
