Katrin Kamin is a PostDoc and Deputy Director of the Research Center Trade Policy and co-heads together with Christoph Trebesch the Geopolitics and Economics Initiative at the Kiel Institute for the World Economy.

She studied languages, economics and cultural area studies with a focus on political science in Passau. She then completed her doctorate under Holger Görg on "International Trade and Conflict: Determinants, Impact, Endogeneity and Data" at Kiel University.

Katrin Kamin advises a number of German ministries, including the Ministry of Economics and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, as well as the DG Trade of the EU Commission. She conducts research on international trade and international political economy with a special focus on geoeconomics. In particular, she works on the interactions between economic and political variables, such as democratisation and conflicts with trade. Currently, Katrin Kamin is focusing on the geoeconomics of European and German foreign trade policy, the consequences of sanctions and the influence of (geopolitical) conflicts on investments.
