Advanced Studies Program

asp_header_times

The Advanced Studies Program in International Economic Policy Research (ASP) brings together every year since 1984 a small multicultural group of approx. 20 smart and motivated students (with a Master degree or already Ph.D candidates) and young professionals to the Kiel Institute for a profound training of skills pertinent to economic analysis, methods of empirical research and the evaluation of economic policies.

Internationally renowned professors from leading universities teach their area of specialization in intensive one or two week courses. This rigorous and up-to-date academic teaching by prominent professors is reinforced by an outstanding alumni network and access to the resources of a leading Research Institute which makes it a unique program worldwide. The ASP is all of this and more.

The 10-Month ASP program curriculum develops successful and thoughtful economists in a global and competitive environment who are seeking a career in international organizations, in economic policy making and management, or in academic institutions.

We are looking for participants who want to build upon their academic and professional backgrounds wisely, to upgrade their understanding of international economics methods rapidly, and who believe that economists enpowered with updated knowledge and methods can solve a wide range of problems and prominently among them urgent global problems.

"I have learned a lot about what’s currently going on in different fields of research. This helped me shape my interests for the upcoming PhD research. After my master’s, I didn’t really feel qualified to make the decision whether to do a PhD or work in the private sector right away."

Felix C. (PhD candidate, European University Institute, Florence)

"Network with former ASP students & researchers, close contact to first-class scholars from all over the world and connection to the IfW-researcher centers, helps doing research and for job market applications. Overall all teachers were approachable, open-minded and happy to share their thoughts."

Isabel Hanisch (PhD candidate, Notre Dame University, Indiana)
