(...) British exporters come a distant second with losses of around £109 million a month in trade, according to research by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. Sanctions were imposed by 37 western countries on Russian business activity and wealthy individuals from March 2014 in response to the seizure of Crimea and support for pro-Russian fighters in eastern Ukraine. Russia responded with restrictions on some agricultural imports. Up to the end of 2015 the restrictions led to a loss in trade on both sides amounting to £85 billion, researchers said.
