A Natural Ultimatum Game: Evidence from an Informal Market for Group Train Travel

This article describes a naturally occurring bargaining situation that to a large extent resembles the ultimatum game. Despite obvious asymmetry between the participants, we find

the equal split to be the clear mode of the outcomes observed. This contrasts with lab experiments on the ultimatum game and similar games on the division of a pie, where

the prevalence of the equal split diminishes when the players' positions or payoffs are (perceived as) asymmetric.
