The Kiel Institute for the World Economy has once again been rated among the top think tanks by “The Global Go-To Think Tanks” study conducted by the International Relations Program of the University of Pennsylvania. It was ranked as number five, worldwide, among think tanks concerned with international economic policy. It is the only German economics research institute to achieve a ranking and achieved a higher ranking than such famous U.S. institutions as the Rand Corporation and the National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER). Among the top 50 non-U.S. think tanks concerned with all policy areas, the Kiel Institute achieved a noteworthy ranking of 26th.

The University of Pennsylvania used a multi-stage process involving surveys of independent experts from the scientific community, government, civil society, and the media to assess 6,545 think tanks throughout the world. Of these 6,545 think tanks, 202 were included in the ranking of the best think tanks.
