Kiel Institute Excellence Award Goes to Four Outstanding Young Economists

The conferment for this year’s Excellence Award in Global Economic Affairs will take place on Sunday, June 19, 2011, at 10 a.m. in conjunction with the presentation of the Global Economy Prize 2011. The award ceremony will be held in the Council Chamber of the Kiel Town Hall.

The Kiel Institute's Excellence Award in Global Economic Affairs 2011 goes to four outstanding young economists from universities in Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States. The winners of the award are Arnaud Costinot (MIT), Yuriy Gorodnichenko (Berkeley), Eleonora Patacchini (Rome) and Paolo Surico (London). The award includes a one-month research visit to the Kiel Institute which is financed by several grants (the Horst Siebert Fellowship, the Porsche Fellowship, the Landeshauptstadt Kiel Fellowship, Birke Hospitality Fellowship, and the Kiel Institute Fellowship).

This year’s award winners have significantly contributed to expanding the knowledge base in global economic research. Arnaud Costinot provided important new insights on international trade. Yuriy Gorodnichenko has written excellent papers on innovation and economic growth. Eleonora Patacchini provided innovative studies on social networks and labour markets. And Paolo Surico has made himself a name through his work on monetary policy.
