New Forces of Global Governance—Fourth Global Economic Symposium, in Kiel
The Global Economic Symposium (GES) was held last year for the first time in Kiel, the capital of Schleswig-Holstein, on 4–6 October 2011, where more than 400 experts from all over the world met for the fourth time to discuss and find possible solutions to global problems. 2011 Global Economy Prize Awarded to Jean-Claude Trichet, Lawrence Summers, and Victor L.L. Chu
The Global Economy Prize was awarded by the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, the Schleswig-Holstein Chamber of Commerce and Industry, and the City of Kiel to Jean-Claude Trichet, the President of the European Central Bank, Lawrence Summers, former Director of the White House National Economic Council for President Obama and President Emeritus of Harvard University, and Victor L.L. Chu, Chairman of First Eastern Investment Group in Hong Kong. Bertelsmann Stiftung and IfW Sign Cooperative Agreement
The Bertelsmann Stiftung and the Kiel Institute for the World Economy (IfW) will now be collaborating to organize the Global Economic Symposium (GES). The agreement for this long-term partnership was recently signed by Dr. Gunter Thielen, chairman and CEO of the Bertelsmann Stiftung, and Prof. Dennis J. Snower, president of the Kiel Institute for the World Economy. more...
Am 2. Dezember 2010 in der Zeit von 16.30 -18.00 Uhr wurde der Bernhard-Harms-Preis 2010 an Professor Raghuram Rajan (University of Chicago) verliehen. Die Festvorlesung des Preisträgers hatte das Thema: "Fault Lines: The continuing threats to stable world growth". Die Veranstaltung fand im großen Lesesaal der ZBW statt.
Am 12. November dieses Jahres feierte der Wirtschafts-wissenschaftliche Club sein 90-jähriges Bestehen mit einer Vortragsveranstaltung zur Geschichte des Clubs, Kiels und Schleswig-Holsteins im Großen Lesesaal der ZBW (15.00 Uhr – 18.30 Uhr).

Die letzte Jahresveranstaltung der Gesellschaft zur Förderung des IfW fand am 23. Februar 2010 in Iphofen (Bayern) statt.
Konsul Professor Dr. Hans Heinrich Driftmann ist am 26. März 2009 zum Präsidenten des Deutschen Industrie- und Handelskammertages gewählt worden. Professor Driftmann ist eng mit dem Institut für Weltwirtschaft verbunden und wurde für seine Verdienste mit dem Titel eines Ehrensenators des Instituts geehrt. Er ist Vorsitzender des Wirtschaftsbeirats des IfW, dem weitere Spitzenvertreter der deutschen Wirtschaft angehören und der 2008 mit dem Ziel ins Leben gerufen wurde, das Gespräch zwischen der Wirtschaftswissenschaft und der Wirtschaft zu vertiefen.
