Globalisierung und Wohlfahrtsstaat
Die öffentliche Debatte um die ökonomischen Auswirkungen der Globalisierung ist von Ängsten vor massiven Arbeitsplatzverlusten und steigender Ungleichheit geprägt. Da der Globalisierungsprozess nicht nur Gewinner sondern auch Verlierer kennt, und daher Ungleichheiten verstärken kann, stellt er Wohlfahrtsstaaten vor enorme Herausforderungen. Unser Forschungsbereich identifiziert diese Herausforderungen und analysiert, wie Wohlfahrtsstaaten unter Einhaltung ihrer Ziele – wie beispielsweise der sozialen Sicherung, der Einkommensumverteilung und der Bereitstellung öffentlicher Güter – auf diese Herausforderungen reagieren können.
Unser Forschungsschwerpunkt liegt auf den Herausforderungen der Globalisierung für den Arbeitsmarkt. Wir analysieren Politikmaßnahmen, die geeignet sind, die Anpassungsfähigkeit der Menschen auf dem Arbeitsmarkt zu erhöhen und die Gewinne der Globalisierung gerechter zu verteilen. Ein zweiter Forschungsschwerpunkt beschäftigt sich mit den Herausforderungen und Chancen der Globalisierung für das Gesundheitswesen.
Der Forschungsbereich kombiniert Einsichten der Arbeitsmarktökonomie, der Makroökonomie und der realen Außenhandelstheorie, um eine globale Perspektive auf den Wohlfahrtsstaat zu bieten. Gleichzeitig berücksichtigt der Forschungsbereich explizit die Anreizwirkungen der untersuchten Politikmaßnahmen auf der Mikroebene. Um zu einem besseren Verständnis der Determinanten von ökonomischen Entscheidungen zu gelangen, berücksichtigt unsere Forschung auch verhaltensökonomische Ansätze.
