Armutsminderung und Entwicklung
| Mit weltweit mehr als zwei Milliarden Menschen, die von weniger als zwei US-Dollar pro Tag leben müssen, stellt die absolute Armut eines der dringlichsten sozialen Probleme der Gegenwart dar. Die Vereinten Nationen haben dementsprechend die Halbierung der absoluten Armut bis 2015 als zentrales Millenniumsentwicklungsziel formuliert. Vor diesem Hintergrund werden im Forschungsbereich vorwiegend empirische Analysen zu aktuellen entwicklungspolitischen Fragestellungen durchgeführt. |

| Der Schwerpunkt der Arbeit liegt auf Themen, die mit der Integration der Entwicklungs- und Transformationsländer in die Weltwirtschaft zusammenhängen. So wird zum Beispiel untersucht, welche Verteilungswirkungen Rücküberweisungen von Migranten in den Heimatländern haben und ob die Entwicklungshilfe einen Beitrag zur Erreichung der Millenniumsentwicklungsziele leisten kann. Fragen, die sich aus der Spezialisierung vieler Entwicklungsländer auf die Landwirtschaft und die Ausbeutung mineralischer Ressourcen ergeben, nehmen ebenfalls einen breiten Raum ein. |
Um die internationale Forschungszusammenarbeit und den Austausch zwischen Wissenschaftlern und Praktikern der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit zu fördern, unterhält unser Forschungsbereich das "Poverty Reduction, Equity, and Growth Network (PEGNet)". |
Als Research Associate sind Aslihan Arslan (FAO, Rom) und Jann Lay (Universität Göttingen und GIGA Hamburg) dem Forschungsbereich verbunden. Enge Forschungskooperationen bestehen darüber hinaus mit Clemens Breisinger (IFPRI), Axel Dreher (Universität Heidelberg), Hannes Öhler (Universität Heidelberg), Pablo Selaya (Universität Kopenhagen) und Christoph Trebesch (LMU München).
