Prof. Jeffrey D. Sachs, Ph.D.

Professor Jeffrey D. Sachs (born 1954) is Professor of Sustainable Development and of Health Policy and Management at Columbia University, New York, U.S., where he also is Director of the Earth Institute. As Special Adviser to the current as well as to the former General Secretary of the United Nations he contributed substantially to the UN’s Millennium Project aimed at reducing extreme poverty and control disease in the developing world. As President und Co-founder of the Millennium Promise Alliance, a non-profit organisation, he also focuses on issues in global poverty reduction. Jeffrey Sachs is internationally renowned for his work as economic adviser to several governments in Latin America, Eastern Europe, the former Soviet Union, Asia and Africa, and was repeatedly cited by the media as the “best-known” and “most influencial” economist in the world.
