The Kiel Institute Global Economy Prize 2009

 

Mary RobinsonMary Robinson (born 1944) was Ireland’s first female President serving from 1990 to 1997. From 1997 to 2002 she was High Commissioner for Human Rights of the United Nations. As President of Ireland she has been credited for revitalizing public office and Irish-British relations. As Human Rights High Commissioner she gave priority to integrating human rights concerns into all UN activities. She is Honorary President of Oxfam International (since 2002) and chairs the Institute for Environment and Development as well as the Council of Women World Leaders. Her most recent project is Realizing Rights: The Ethical Globalizartion Initiative which seeks to incorporate human rights into the globalization process. In 2004 she was appointed Professor of Practice in International Affairs at Columbia University, New York, U.S.
