| Prof. Robert Mundell was awarded the Nobel Prize in Economics for his pioneering work on optimum currency areas, among other achievements. On account of this work, he is considered to be one of the founding fathers of the European Monetary Union. He maintains that such a union generates not only economic efficiency but social integration. |
