ESF-IfW Conferences

A Partnership between the European Science Foundation, the Kiel Institute for the World Economy, and Schleswig-Holstein’s Biomedical „Inflammation at Interfaces" Cluster of Excellence

Participation

To participate in one of these agenda-setting conferences please use the application form on the specific conference website that is maintained by the European Science Foundation. For the 3rd conference on October 3-8, 2007, the application form is available at www.esf.org/conferences/07247. Young researchers from economics, medicine and related disciplines are invited to contribute their own ideas and research findings for selected short talks and poster sessions. Grants to cover the conference fee and a generous contribution towards travel costs will be available for the best young applicants.

The format of each conference will comprise a sequence of plenary sessions with 25 invited speakers, plenary discussions, poster viewing sessions and selected short talks from young researchers. There will be a total of up to 130 competitively selected participants, and each event will last four full days so as to give ample time for the discussion of promising new research avenues.

Some of the conferences will be accompanied by Pre-Conference Workshops, in which selected speakers from the main conference will provide introductory and advanced courses in several thematic modules that are specially designed for practitioners, researchers and policy makers in health care, and developers of medical technology, who may or may not attend the main conference. In the Pre-Conference Workshops on "New Technology and Medical Decision Making," offered on October 4, 2006, the thematic modules comprised two or three short courses each and were titled Health Care Practice, Valuation Methods, Information Technology, Decision Theory, and Genomics-based Medicine.
